10th Hole - Cor-Ten

10th Hole - Cor-Ten

PAR 5 - 596 Yards

A beautifully designed hole, this par-5 will test your shot-making abilities. Rarely reached in 2, most players will be left with a wedge or short iron for their approach shot. Take dead aim & avoid the surrounding hazards.
"Your 1st & 2nd shots shouldn't be real tight, but should be full-length. The green is small - long & thin - there is little room for error on your 3rd shot. Elevated, deep bunkers protect the left side of the putting surface, while a pond protects the right. Don't figure the greenside bunkers are a bailout, though, because your next shot will be down to the shallow green & any less-than-perfect bunker shot will either stay in the sand or get wet. The green is relatively flat & hard to hold for those trying to get home in 2."
--Course Architect D.A. Weibring

History

During the early 1960s, Deere & Company commissioned Finnish architect Eero Saarinen, who also designed the Arch in St. Louis, to create its world headquarters building. The result was the Deere & Company Administrative Center, the 1st building made of Cor-Ten steel. The steel forms its own protective coating as it weathers & takes on a rich dark color, much like newly plowed Midwestern soil.

Saarinen died before the his masterpiece was completed in 1964. In the 70s, Deere hired Saarinen's partner, Kevin Roche to design the West Office Building. It opened in '78, featuring a tree-filled atrium.

The Deere & Company Administrative Center is located less than 2 miles from the TPC at Deere Run. The 10th hole is dedicated to Eero Saarinen & his revolutionary Administrative Center.
