17th Hole - Stadium

17th Hole - Stadium

PAR 5 - 569 Yards

A reachable par-5 for the longer hitters, you'll want to avoid the bunkers in the center of the fairway. Otherwise, you will be faced with the hardest shot in golf, the long bunker shot which can turn a birdie into a bogey just like that.
"Reachable in 2 for those whose arms reach the ground, but they will have to perfectly place a tee ball on this slight dogleg left to do it. The fairway is tight & tree-lined & canted in the landing area. The green is guarded in front by bunkers, some quite short of the green to throw off your perspective. The green is elevated slightly with Pinehurst No. 2-style bentgrass collection areas all around. Miss the green & you will have a very tough up-and-down."
--Course Architect D.A. Weibring

History

When Deere & Company chairman Hans Becherer and PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem announced plans for the TPC at Deere Run in April 1997, it represented the 17th course in the TPC Network.

In October 1980, the PGA TOUR ushered in the Stadium Golf concept with the opening of the first TPC, the TPC at Sawgrass. The goal was to create a more enjoyable experience for the golf spectator. It was achieved by providing amphitheaters & strategic mounding around tees & greens. From these vantage points, fans can be part of the action & excitement.

The mounding around the 17th hole, & terraced hillside that parallels No. 18, are classic examples of this design.
