PAR 4 - 503 Yards
Let's face it, this hole is just long and requires 2 great shots to
even have a chance at making birdie. Any tee shots in the left-hand rough
will almost guarantee a lay up for your next shot. You should feel good
about a 4 on this hole.
"This brawny hole is the longest par-4 & a severe test of strategy & ball placement. You may just want to bite the bullet here, play it as a 3-shot hole & try to make a 1-putt par. A level landing area for your drive will leave you with a long approach shot through the suddenly-tight forest & over a roller coaster fairway to a long & narrow tree-shrouded, slightly elevated green that has bunkers on both sides. Most people will play this as a 3-shotter, whether they want to or not."

History
You may feel you need a cannon to get on this par 4 in two. What better choice than the Howitzer, manufactured since the Spanish-American War at the Rock Island Arsenal.
The Rock Island Arsenal was established by an act of Congress July 11, 1862. Harper's Ferry Armory had fallen to Confederate forces in Virginia & Congress looked westward for a more secure location for arms storage and manufacturing. Construction took place from 1866-1893 under the direction of General Thomas Jackson Rodman, the famous gun designer. Gradually, the Arsenal mission shifted to equipment repairs & light manufacturing.
A principal item manufactured at the Arsenal is the Howitzer. A cannon combining mobility & range, the Howitzer remains the most effective field artillery piece developed & used during the 20th century.
