JOHN DEERE CLASSIC FIELD UPDATE
SILVIS, Illinois (July 8, 2010) -The field at this year's John Deere Classic is better than ever. As of July 8, the 2010 field included:
· Nine 2010 PGA TOUR winners
· 23 players eligible for next week's British Open, not including the player who earns a spot as a top-five finisher at the John Deere
· 70 of the top 125 current season PGA TOUR money winners
· 57 of the top 100 U.S. players on the Official World Golf Ranking
· 30 players who have won at least one tournament over the last two years
· 36 international players from 11 nations outside the U.S. (23 percent of the field)
This year's tournament also includes seven of the top 50 players in the world and 23 of the top 100, according to the Official World Golf Ranking. The field also includes 16 of the top 40 Australians, as ranked by the OWGR.
The nine 2010 PGA TOUR winners are Cameron Beckman, Jason Bohn, Tim Clark, Jason Day, Zach Johnson, Derek Lamely, Ryan Palmer, Steve Stricker (also JDC defending champion), and Bubba Watson.
The field includes an impressive group of first-time visitors to the John Deere, namely: Rickie Fowler, the rookie out of Oklahoma State; eight-time Tour winner Stuart Appleby of Australia; Swedish star Fredrik Jacobson, and K.J. Choi of Korea.
While the field of 156 players still consists primarily of American-born players, 36 23 percent were born outside the U.S. Australia has by far the largest number of contestants with 16 followed by Sweden (five), South Africa (three), Korea (two), Zimbabwe (two), England (two), Canada (one), Argentina (one), Japan (one), New Zealand (one), and Norway (one).
Twenty-three contestants, including seven internationals, are exempt for the British Open and are booked to fly on the John Deere Classic's direct charter flight to Edinburgh from Quad Cities International Airport. A 24th player - the highest finisher among the top five finishers not already exempt - also earns a spot in this year's Open Championship and most likely would be traveling via the charter.

The PGA TOUR began its run in the Quad Cities in 1971.John Deere, whose world headquarters is in Moline, Ill., assumed title sponsorship of the tournament in 1998.The tournament moved to TPC Deere Run in 2000.
The tournament helped raise $4.6 million for 500 charities in 2009, ranking it first on the PGA TOUR overall in per capita contributions at $12.26 for each of the 375,000 residents of the Quad City area and fifth overall on the PGA TOUR.
The John Deere Classic, which includes Birdies for Charity, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in the John Deere Classic tournament offices at 15623 Coaltown Road, East Moline, Illinios. Since its founding in 1971, the tournament has helped raise $33.6 million for charity.
